Series: Midnight Breed #11
Author: Lara Adrian
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.
Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.
Well what can I say about this book? Apart from the fact that I think it may be my favourite Midnight Breed book!
I was a little concerned at the fact that the book has moved on way in to the future, 20 years after the last Midnight Breed book Darker After Midnight, but I worried over nothing. I think Lara Adrian has moved the story on brilliantly. She's introduced us to a whole bunch of new characters, including the next generation of sexy breed warriors, as well as still involving the ones we already know and love. And I've already starting picking out my favourites and look forward to reading more about them.
I really liked Mira's character when we were first introduced to her in Veil of Midnight with her unusual breedmate gift. She is now 29 years old and, after being trained by the order, has grown to be a strong warrior herself leading a team of great new breed warriors, Then there is Kellen a sexy alpha male who grew up with Mira after he was taken in by the order when his family were killed.
After Kellen disappeared 8 years ago, Mira is still in love with him and hasn't been able to let go. When they unexpectedly find each other again their chemistry is intense and had me completely hooked from the moment they were back together.
As a girl, Mira had held his hand and led him out of a dark place. As a woman, she’d held his heart, despite his efforts to prove himself from caring for someone he could never bear to lose. Now he only hoped he’d find the strength to push Mira away, when all he wanted was to pull her close and never let her go.Edge of Dawn is an action packed, emotionally intense story which has a whole different feel to it than the previous books. There are new enemies, new breedmates, I loved meeting the grown up children of some of our favourite couples and even though I found it hard to remember all the new characters names I'm really looking forward to getting to know them all in future books. I think Lara has done a fantastic job of setting up the new story arc and I loved the twist at the end. The whole thing kept me gripped from start to finish, I literally couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in 2 days.
If I was going to grumble about anything it would be the fact that we didn't get any interaction between Mira and Hunter which I was a little disappointed about given how close they were. But it is only a minor grumble!
I would also say that because of the shift in time and the new story arc etc.. You could probably read this if you haven't read any of the books prior, however, if you haven't read any of the Midnight Breed series I would highly recommend that you do starting from the beginning.
Well done Lara Adrian for keeping me hooked and putting a whole new fresh spin on one of my favourite PNR series. I'm looking forward to reading more...
