REVIEW: The Dark Prince (Dark Light Series #2) by S.L. Jennings

Title: The Dark Prince
Series: Dark Light Series #2
Author: S.L. Jennings
Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Blurb
Dorian Skotos is Dark. And although that brand of sheer, unrelenting evil is a direct threat to her life, Gabriella is tragically in love with him.

Gabriella knew it was all too good to be true. The way his touch radiated electricity right to her core, the way his ice blue eyes somehow made panties drop involuntarily, how his sexy half-smile crumbled the barriers around her heart…Dorian was extraordinary in every way.

She ignored the alarm bells for the sake of pleasure and a little slice of peace from her mixed-up life. She thought that whatever he was, she could help him. Maybe even change him. But now that the proof of Dorian’s true identity and what he was sent for is staring her in the face, Gabriella can’t deny the inevitable. And confronting that truth could very well slaughter more than just her fragile heart.

Review

Oh sweet goodness how can I put this book into words?

Like this...

Wow!

I could quite simply just leave it at that but I won't because I just have to tell you how much I loved this book.

In this second instalment of The Dark Light Series, we continue on right where the last story left off. After a startling discovery at the end of book 1, Dark Light, Gabriella (Gabs) has to confront the man she has given her heart to about keeping a very dark secret from her. The shocking truth he reveals to her should be enough to send her running as far away from him as possible. Instead she does the exact opposite and after Dorian confesses his love for her they embark on an intense love affair.
Everything about this kiss screams desperation and desire. The thought that I could have actually lost Dorian, that he could have turned out to be some revolting monster that didn't give a damn about me, truly terrified me. Not the Dark or my unknown stalker or even death itself. Losing Dorian is what I feared above everything else. And as we lay here, tongues and limbs wholly intertwined, we still can't get enough. Even if we survive this, an eternity of loving Dorian would never be enough for me.
That is until someone close to Dorian comes between them and everything they've built gets thrown into turmoil. Gabriella soon finds herself faced with a heart wrenching decision when she realises she can no longer trust the man she has given everything to.

“We’ll be together. I’ll make this right for us. For you. I love you, little girl."

A big part of the book is about Gabriella and Dorians relationship which isn't a bad thing. Its full of heated passion and some very good sex (yes, it gets even hotter than the last book) which really will make your toes curl. The whole time these two characters were on the page together I was enthralled by their immense love for one and other.

This instalment had everything: Passion, love, heartbreak, danger and much more. We got to see a lot more of the paranormal element in this particularly with Dorian who even brought his extraordinary powers into the bedroom (I wont spoil but...Wow!) Throughout the story Gabs has to learn to deal with the changes she is facing and to decide which side she will choose: the Dark or the Light, as well as try to hold on to the one and only person she wants to spend the rest of eternity with even though the odds are stacked against them.
I slowly nod though I am unable to fathom having to live without Dorian. I know better than to ask more questions, questions that could reveal the truth that we are both trying to conceal in order to save our lives.
We're also introduced to some new characters. One in particular, who I also found myself falling in love with, is Niko. He is cheeky, flirtatious and sexy as hell and becomes an important friend to Gabs when she is in a bad place, becoming a real shoulder to cry on, a crutch that she finds herself leaning on when her life seems to be spinning out of control. I truly am looking forward to seeing more of him and you'll be excited by him too when know who he is.

I was totally addicted to this book, even more so than the first. The storyline kept me interested through every single page. There wasn't any instant that I felt I wanted to skip through, I didn't find myself rushing through any pages, I was just gripped from the very first page to yet another exciting cliffhanger on the last. I literally couldn't put it down: I made endless cups of tea, did the ironing and even used the bathroom with this book in my hand! It really had me hooked.

My emotions? Well, I may just need some serious therapy after reading this. From the very start I felt like my heart was being ripped from my chest. The intense ride these two went through, the highs and the very low lows had me reeling from exhaustion and there were times I wanted to pick up the Jack and drink myself into oblivion along with Gabs. I wondered if my chest could take any more. I LOVED it!

S.L. Jennings is an immensely passionate writer who knows how to express the feelings and emotions of each of her characters. She has the ability to make you feel every bit of the anxiety, pain, joy and love that her characters feel as though it is your own.

If you liked fifty shades of grey and if you enjoy paranormal romance then you'll absolutely love this series and I hope that this review will sway you into reading these books and loving them as much as I have.

Now the torturous wait for book three, Light Shadows, begins!
